Hostel & Indian Food for MBBS Abroad Students

Students rarely leave a course because of the syllabus. They leave because the food did not suit them or the living arrangement was a shock. So it is worth knowing exactly what six years of daily life looks like before you choose a university.

The hostel

University-managed hostels near or inside campus are the norm for international students, typically two to four students per room with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities on each floor, heating for winter, Wi-Fi and a common study area. Girls and boys are accommodated in separate blocks. Rooms are practical rather than luxurious — clean, warm and walking distance from the lecture halls.

The food

Every university we work with has Indian food available, either through a mess run for Indian students or through nearby Indian restaurants. Vegetarian and Jain requirements are workable, and the local cuisine in Uzbekistan is wheat and rice based, which most Indian students adapt to quickly. Students who want their own cooking use the hostel kitchen, and Indian groceries and spices are available locally.

What to carry from home

Bring warm clothing that actually handles sub-zero winters, any regular medication with a prescription, a few months of favourite spices or ready-to-eat items for the first weeks, and copies of every document. We give each student a full packing list before departure, and our arrival team helps buy the rest locally in the first days.
